PEIWG’s inaugural Page to Pitch program was launched in 2025 as a pilot professional development initiative aimed to support PEI writers interested in working in our growing television and film industry. With funding support from Innovation PEI and in collaboration with the Charlottetown Film Festival, this program was designed as a bridge between writing and screen production, helping guide participants from an early concept through to a more polished, pitch-ready project.

In May of 2025, seven writers were selected following a competitive application process and swiftly moved through three in-person weekend intensives in Charlottetown, supported by virtual mentorship sessions throughout the summer and early fall. Participants developed original film and television projects while working on building fundamental skills in story development, scripting, and professional pitching.

The program culminated in a live public pitch FINALE as part of the Charlottetown Film Festival Industry Forum, where participants presented five-minute pitches to an audience of industry professionals and curious and supportive members of the public!

Before we go any further, we thought we’d add an FAQ for questions you may have about the program!

This program is open to writers working in all genres, including (but not limited to) fiction, non-fiction, narrative, documentary, and hybrid formats.
Prior screenwriting or pitching experience is not required! This program is designed to help writers move into the television and film industry, build fundamentals, and develop connections along the way. Writers of all different career stages are more than welcome to apply.
The program typically supports a small cohort of participants in order to focus on mentorship and meaningful feedback. We want program participants to have the opportunity to learn and grow as much as possible, and that’s tough to do in a large group.
In 2025, seven (7) writers were selected through a competitive application process. The 2026 edition of the program will have 6 participants selected.
Page to Pitch supports participants in developing one screen-based project from the beginning rough draft variations through to a pitch ready version.
This is delivered through a series of structured phases, which will include:
- Minimum of 3 in-person weekend intensives
- Virtual mentorship sessions
- Professional pitch coaching and presentation training
The program closes with an open-to-the-public pitch event finale in early fall! Participants pitch their projects to a panel of industry professionals, and a combined total of $15,000 in project development funding will be awarded to selected participants!
In-person weekend intensive sessions are typically held in Charlottetown, PEI, with additional guidance and mentorship sessions hosted virtually.

Deadline to apply is March 31st, 2026 at 11:59pm Atlantic Time.

2026 applications will be reviewed through an anonymous review process to do our best to ensure fairness and accessibility. Applicants are asked to submit:
- A current creative CV (2 pages maximum)
- A 500-word cover letter introducing yourself, outlining your project and/or what you hope to gain from the program
- A writing sample (any format, excerpt if long form work)

2026 SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

What IS the program?

The PEIWG Page to Pitch program is a new initiative designed to support Prince Edward Island–based writers who are looking to break into film and television. Whether you're developing an original concept or adapting existing work, this program offers mentorship and industry access to help move your project forward.

Participants will receive industry-standard software and expert script development from established screenwriters and TV/film executives, culminating in the opportunity to pitch their project in front of industry professionals and a live audience at a finale event in Fall 2026. The program includes three weekend intensives scheduled between May, June, and July, 2026, with exact dates to be confirmed.

Key Features of the Program

1. Three weekend intensives to help hone your script from outline to draft and finally to pitch.

2. Ongoing one-on-one mentorship with senior writers hand selected for your project.

3. A total of $15,000 in project development funding will be awarded to select participants following the completion of the program.

Eligibility:

PEI Residents living in PEI for a minimum 1 year prior to application date.
Writers with demonstrated experience in any writing form (including poetry, fiction, non-fiction, etc.), interested in transitioning into writing for the screens.
Aspiring/emerging screenwriters seeking to develop their careers in the Film & TV industry.
Writing experience must be outlined in a CV with your submission.
Writing samples must be provided with submissions.
Applicants must be able to attend all 3 writing intensive weekends and the finale event.

Please Note: The program is not designed to teach the basics of writing, but to help writers adapt their craft to screen-based storytelling. Writers from other disciplines who are looking to transition into screenwriting are strongly encouraged to apply.
