We are the PEI Writers' Guild—a group of authors, editors, publishing industry professionals, and community-minded writers.
We’re rooted in Epekwitk (PEI) but we have a dynamic, enveloping global wingspan. We are students, and we are teachers. We write short fiction, YA, memoir, poetry, travel. We write creative nonfiction, lyric poems, ballads, poetry, and recipes. We are spoken word artists, performance poets, and we write legends, bedtime stories, and more!
Your Battle Tales 2025 WINNER!
Your Battle Tales 2025 WINNER!
Congratulations to the 2025 Battle Tales Champion, J.M. Platts-Fanning!
We’re simply thrilled to announce that J.M. Platts-Fanning is the winner of this year’s Battle Tales - our friendly annual short story writing contest that continues to celebrate compelling storytelling from all across PEI.
Our deepest thanks to this year’s Guest Judge Monica Lacey, who had the extreme challenge of selecting a winner from this year’s array of high quality submissions. Of the winning piece, Monica shared:
"This one was an incredible read—such unique use of language and structure with a beautifully potent vitality and urgency to it. It's rare I come across writing that feels like something I haven't seen before. It's exciting!"
We also want to extend our heartfelt congratulations to our remarkable finalists:
Jane Affleck (1st runner-up), Luke Arbuckle (2nd runner-up), Katie Mac, and Adam Slamang—each of whom treated us with readings of their stories during the contest finale hosted by our 2025 event sponsor The Gallery Coffee House & Bistro in Charlottetown.
Speaking of which, a special thank you goes out to The Gallery Coffee House & Bistro for sponsoring and hosting this year’s event, and to our dedicated volunteers who helped bring the contest and finale to life.
And last but not least, to each and every writer who submitted to this year’s Battle Tales Ten: thank you. You continue to inspire this growing writing community and we’re honoured that you submitted your stories and celebrated the art of writing with us.
Until next year….
