PAGE TO PITCH - program background…

PEIWG’s inaugural Page to Pitch program was launched in 2025 as a pilot professional development initiative aimed to support PEI writers interested in working in our growing television and film industry. With funding support from Innovation PEI and in collaboration with the Charlottetown Film Festival, this program was designed as a bridge between writing and screen production, helping guide participants from an early concept through to a more polished, pitch-ready project.

In May of 2025, seven writers were selected following a competitive application process and swiftly moved through three in-person weekend intensives in Charlottetown, supported by virtual mentorship sessions throughout the summer and early fall. Participants developed original film and television projects while working on building fundamental skills in story development, scripting, and professional pitching.

The program culminated in a live public pitch FINALE as part of the Charlottetown Film Festival Industry Forum, where participants presented five-minute pitches to an audience of industry professionals and curious and supportive members of the public!

Before we go any further, we thought we’d add an FAQ for questions you may have about the program!

  • This program is open to writers working in all genres, including (but not limited to) fiction, non-fiction, narrative, documentary, and hybrid formats.

Prior screenwriting or pitching experience is not required! This program is designed to help writers move into the television and film industry, build fundamentals, and develop connections along the way. Writers of all different career stages are welcome to apply.

  • The program typically supports a small cohort of participants in order to focus on mentorship and meaningful feedback. We want program participants to have the opportunity to learn and grow as much as possible, and that’s tough to do in a large group.

In 2025, seven writers were selected through a competitive application process. The 2026 edition of the program will very likely be close to that number again.

  • Page to Pitch supports participants in developing one screen-based project from concept to pitch.

This is delivered through a series of structured phases, which may include:

    • In-person weekend intensives

    • Virtual mentorship sessions

    • Script development and revision (both in person and virtually)

    • Pitch coaching and presentation training (both in person and virtually)

The program closes with an open-to-the-public pitch event finale, held as part of the Charlottetown Film Festival in October! Participants pitch their projects to an audience that includes invited industry guests, and in 2025 selected projects received 5k and 10k in further project development funding!

  • In-person weekend intensive sessions are typically held in Charlottetown, PEI, with additional guidance and mentorship hosted virtually. Program locations and formats will be confirmed when applications open over the coming months.

  • The short answer of “when” is over the coming months! The long answer of “when” is we’re still finalizing details regarding the 2026 program and hope to share our submissions intake schedule as soon as possible.

2026 applications will be reviewed through an anonymous review process to do our best to ensure fairness and accessibility. When applications open, applicants will be asked to submit:

    • A creative or writing CV (with your name and identifiers redacted)

    • A writing sample

    • A short cover letter outlining your interest in the program, your project idea, and why you think you’d be a good fit for the program.

Application timelines and full submission guidelines will be announced as soon as we can, so please continue to check in to our website for updates on this!

  • Members of the PEI Writers’ Guild can apply to this program free of charge!

There is a $35 application fee for non-members. Becoming a member of the PEIWG is only $50 annually and can be done in minutes by visiting HERE!

  • You’re already doing it!

We’ll provide updates to our social media channels (@peiwritersguild on Meta and Instagram), as well as to this very page.

Reviews from Page to Pitch 2025

“Page to Pitch showed me that I could actually do this. PEI has amazing talent waiting to be developed in film and television, and I’m so glad I had this experience.”

— 2025 program participant

“Having deadlines and clear checkpoints to work toward before each session was a huge help in making sure I was moving forward with my project. Having time between sessions to work independently, then refine and receive feedback during the intensives, worked great.”

— 2025 program participant

“The weekend intensives were amazing. They were so educational, and the hands-on exercises and sharing of different points of view between the participants was invaluable.”
