The PEI Writers' Guild will soon be running its annual writing contest, the beloved BATTLE TALES!
Since 2016, we have been offering writers this high fun, low stakes contest to celebrate YOU, PEI writers! All of the Island writers who are crushing the short fiction scene, working on small or large projects, writing about everything from intergalactic stories of solicitude to the waiting room antics of your mother's nursing home. Stories that can sometimes be embarrassing, encouraging, enlightening, but least of all always entertaining. Give us your BEST weekend writing, and we'll give you a WHOLE WEEK to write it -- to pound away on your keyboards to create the best darn short fiction that you can produce.
We'll issue a writing prompt at 12:01 am on Sunday, February 20th, 2022 on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and on our website (www.peiwritersguild.com - check the blog!).
The prompt will detail a few items your short story or essay must include—perhaps a bottle found on the side of the road, or a mysterious note left in your locker. Maybe a curiously-coloured seashell or a pair of shoes dangling from an overhead power line. Whatever it is, it MUST be included in your story!
Then it's off to the literary races! Your wonderful and exciting stories will be submitted to us via Submittable (see below).
Anything received by 11:59 pm on Saturday, February 26th, 2022 will be accepted.
We're looking for stories under 2500 words, written by residents of PEI.
You don't have to be a member of the Writers' Guild to enter, but we sure would love to have you! Read more about membership here: https://www.peiwritersguild.com/Membership
Then we'll compile everything into a tidy stack and ship it off to our judge *** Announcing our judge THIS WEEK!**
Please refrain from putting your name on the story you submit, as all judging is blind.
Well obviously, THE PRESTIGE of being the BEST Battler of Tales on Prince Edward Island for 2022. Go ahead, show us that swagger!
A PEI Writers' Guild MEMBERSHIP for one year! (Go, you!)
