Hello all you wonderful PEI short fiction gladiators. Are you ready to partake in the first ever Battle Tales short story contest? If so, you’ve come to the right place. Behold our writing prompt:

  1. An old, creaky wooden door which won’t close easily.
  2. A lone dog barking in the distance.
  3. A pair of sneakers dangling from a power line. (Bet you didn’t realize we snuck you part of the prompt early. We’re a crafty bunch, aren’t we?)

Now remember: your story must include these items. Beyond that, it’s up to you. You can base your whole plot on these things, or you can simply mention them. Don’t be afraid to embellish either. Maybe those sneakers are a mismatched purple and red, or perhaps the door leads to some spooky cellar. And what about that dog? Who knows. It’s up to you to tell us.

Oh, don’t forget to checkout out the contest rules before you get started. We want a clean battle, after all. Nothing below the belt.

And that’s it, folks. May the best short fiction gladiator win!
